About This Course

The Automotive Mechanic Course is RSDI's foundational mechanic training program. Over three months, students work through every major system in a vehicle — from the engine and gearbox to brakes, suspension and electrical. All training happens on actual running vehicles in the workshop, not on static displays or simulations.

The course is designed for anyone who wants to work as an automotive mechanic, or who wants a solid mechanical foundation before advancing to specialised courses. No prior experience is needed — the course starts from scratch and builds systematically through theory and hands-on practice.

What You'll Learn

• Engine fundamentals — how engines work, components, and common failures
• Engine dismantling, inspection and reassembly
• Gearbox and transmission — function, types and basic repair
• Suspension and steering systems — inspection and adjustment
• Brake systems — drum, disc, hydraulic and handbrake work
• Cooling and fuel systems — diagnosis and basic servicing
• Vehicle health checks and routine servicing schedules
• Fault identification using vehicle symptoms
• Safety and workshop standards

How Training Works

Each training day is split between a theory session in the morning and workshop practice in the afternoon. Theory explains the principles; the afternoon session applies them immediately on real vehicles. By mid-course, students are carrying out full servicing jobs under supervision.

Batch sizes are kept small so every student gets direct time with the instructor. Assessments are practical — you demonstrate what you can do on a vehicle, not on paper.
